Beer-battered Onion Rings

  • 2 large yellow onions, cut into half an inch thick slices, and separated into rings
  • 12 oz. lager-style beer
  • 1¾ cups flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 ½ tbsp. hot paprika
  • 1 tbsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • Salt
  • Canola oil, for frying


Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, paprika, mustard, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Whisk together with honey and beer until you have a smooth consistency. Set aside for 8-10 minutes

Step 2

Heat oil in a deep frying pan, until temperature reaches 375 F. Dip each onion ring into the batter, and let excess batter drip off. Then, carefully drop into the frying pan, and flip after 3 minutes. Repeat by batches the same process in all rings.

Step 3

Transfer the rings in a dish lined with paper towels to drain off excess oil. When serving, sprinkle a little more salt, and pair with a ranch dip. Enjoy!
